Kickstarter Roundup #3: Weekly Dose of Indie Games
Having gone through a successful Kickstarter campaign for CasinoRPG in early 2013, we know how hard it is to get noticed and scrap all the way to your goal, especially if your name isn't Tim Schafer. So, we've decided to help spread the word about our fellow indie game developers and post a weekly roundup of our favorite games we've stumbled across lately.
The Repopulation
A Sci-Fi based MMORPG which provides many of the same sandbox oriented features seen in Star Wars Galaxies and Ultima Online.
One of the games near the top of my "dream list" is a true sandbox MMORPG. The Repopulation sets an incredibly ambitious goal to make this a reality, and what they preview is an exciting look at what could be in store for later this year. Even if sci-fi isn't your thing, do yourself a favor and take a look at this genre-blending game before its funding period ends in around 20 days.
Contradiction
A live-action, fully interactive adventure mystery game.
This game, or interactive movie experience if you'd rather, is quite different from other indie games I've come across on Kickstarter. Being nearly as passionate about movies as I am games, this hybrid movie/game really caught my eye. The campaign doesn't go into much detail about how the live action game will actually work, but I'm intrigued enough by the concept to give it a chance. You've got a week and a half to help this campaign reach its goal!
Project Nimbus
Take to the sky in this high speed mech action game. Dodge bullets, intercept missiles, defeat your enemies and save the Earth.
I've never really gotten into the whole mech-craze, but I've certainly been a fan of combat flight sims for as long as I've been playing video games. Nimbus takes both genres and smashes them together into a hybrid genre worthy of your consideration. Oh yeah, I also really like the name (because, you know, that impacts the gameplay and all). This has already reached its goal, but there are 20 days left for stretch goals.
Antilia
Antilia is an MMORPG featuring a beautiful world, original races, unique gameplay, and an innovative storytelling system!
Don't confuse Antilia for yet another fantasy MMORPG. Yes, it has a lot of the familiar features you would expect, but it appears to genuinely bring some freshness to these, and certainly has a theme that I think brings something new and fun to the table. The magic system alone looks like something worth backing, so make sure you get in within the next 3 weeks of funding.
Universe Rush
Fight your way to dominate the universe. Be the first to try our engaging cross-platform mmo-strategy and bring it closer to reality.
If you've read my previous roundups, you probably know that I'm a big fan of space. Universe Rush takes space, explodes it into an entire universe, makes it an MMO and crams it all into your tablet or phone. Even at this early stage, the visuals are quite stunning for a mobile game. The massive strategy aspects, especially on the mobile platform, are definitely worth checking out. This campaign is still early and has 27 days to go, so there's still time to be an early bird!
