Kickstarter Roundup #11: Weekly Dose of Indie Games
Having gone through a successful Kickstarter campaign for CasinoRPG in early 2013, we know how hard it is to get noticed and scrap all the way to your goal, especially if your name isn't Tim Schafer. So, we've decided to help spread the word about our fellow indie game developers and post a weekly roundup of our favorite games we've stumbled across lately.
Lemma
Every parkour move has the potential to modify the environment. Surfaces pop in and out of existence at will.
I'd like to say I can do parkour in real life, but I'm a game developer that sits in front of a screen all day. I'd probably kill myself with the first move. So, Lemma is certainly the next best thing, and it adds some really interesting game mechanics that not even real parkour can mimic. I also find the visuals quite interesting, in a Minecraft meets parkour sort of way. If you like jumping, then jump (lame pun, I know) on over to this campaign within the next 3+ weeks.
Bear Simulator
Explore, eat stuff, be a Bear!
To be honest, I'm not sure what to make of this one. Am I being trolled by including it in this week's list? I hope not, because if this is for real (especially if the possibility of Oculus Rift support is real), then this actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. I mean, come on, who doesn't like bears...besides Stephen Colbert of course. As if you were surprised, this has already reached its goal with 3+ weeks to go.
Spirit
Take a stroll through the mystical landscapes of this pixel art game to uncover the long forgotten past of an ancient temple.
One of my favorite things to do in many games is just simply explore the world. I'm always fascinated by all of the little details that creators put into their works, and that is exactly what Spirit is all about. Yes, the visuals and music look and sound wonderful, but the world that has been crafted looks irresistible. This is close to its goal, but could use your help over the next week.
PeriAreion
A scientifically accurate real-time strategy game that pits you against the harsh realities of life on Mars. Will your colony survive?
I'm a big fan of space. I'm especially a big fan of Mars. And if you've read this far, you know I'm a big fan of exploration in games. PeriAreion has all of these, and it wraps them up in a fairly unique package. There's no aliens to fight, this is a more realistic simulation of survival on Mars. Since I can't afford a trip to Mars anytime soon, this will certainly be a good replacement for now. They've just reached their goal, but there's still 2 weeks left to get on board.
The Red Solstice
Squad based coop SF strategy / RPG set on Mars during the huge storm called The Red Solstice.
This isn't generally the type of game that I often play, but there's a level of polish and detail in The Red Solstice that impressed me from the start. It has obvious visual and tactical appeal, but what really stands out is the strategy aspect (good strategy is always appealing). There are a lot of elements that require advanced thinking and planning to achieve success, which seems to be a perfect complement for this type of game. This one just got going, still a month to go.
Dead Synchronicity
Old-school 2D graphic adventure game featuring space-time distortions, a dystopian atmosphere... and a dark,
This is a classic point and click adventure game that has a unique art style and audio appeal. What really made this game stand out to me beyond the visuals was the unusual theme and storyline. It certainly has a much more mature theme than you'll be used to in many games, but it also has some other interesting mechanics such as time distortions. There's nearly 3 weeks to go.
